Evangelistic Encounters - Thursday, November 4
I had my first evangelistic experience yesterday. One of my co-workers started chatting with me after overhearing some of a religious debate I unwillingly got involved in. It really surprises me that even with what little experience I have in biblical terms, people still come to me for my opinion. Not just in religious discussion either. I've noticed that I have always been gifted when it comes to counseling and giving my advice. I have this great ability to use common sense and deductive reasoning combined with my morals and beliefs to make anyone change their minds about almost anything. It's just one of the gifts God's given me to be able to fulfill his purpose.
Brooke also came up with this great idea for Christmas gifts for our family. Instead of going out and buying gifts for each other we would find a way to give each other our time. Use something God gave us and share it with that person. At first I thought it was a little corny and didn't like it. It just sounded like too much work so I blew it off. Then today I read the following quote from a chapter in The Purpose Driven Life. Time is your most precious gift because you only have a set amount of it. You can make more money, but you can’t make more time. When you give someone your time, you are giving them a portion of your life that you’ll never get back. Your time is your life. That is why the greatest gift you can give someone is your time.
After I read this, the idea really set in stone. So now all I have to do is figure out how I'm going to give that time. I'm sure I'll think of something between now and Christmas. At least I hope I do...
